Although the Cologne Studierendenwerk offers as many as 5,000 dormitory places, that's still far from enough. Only one third of the applicants receive one of these cheap rooms.
Therefore the Studierendenwerk has developed the initiative "Rent to students". We accept offers for rooms and arrange contact with the landlord. The students then contact the landlord directly.
This novel initiative "Rent to students" has attracted nationwide attention.
The initiative “Vermieten an Studierende” (“Rent to students”) has launched an online marketplace for homestay room rentals. Private individuals who wish to let a spare room or apartment to a student can advertise it here, helping students find a place to stay in Cologne.
Our private rentals platform offers shared flats, sub-let rooms in private households, dorm rooms, studio and full-size apartments, including some for temporary rent.
The offers are intended exclusively for students. The rooms or apartments are not checked by the Studierendenwerk Köln. All information is without guarantee. If you are asked to transfer money to money transfer institutions, an escrow service or foreign banks, please refrain from doing so. If you are asked to pay the deposit or even the first rent before the official start of the rental period, you should also refrain from doing so.
In such cases, please report the offer to us, as there have unfortunately been individual cases of attempted fraud. We will then investigate these reported cases.
