Chip Cards

The Cologne Studierendenwerk offers cashless chip card payment at canteens, bistros, coffee bars and dormitories. Quicker payment, faster queues.

Handling of Chip Cards

Amounts on your university canteen card or combination card cannot be paid out during your studies due to the legal regulations on repayments of prepaid voucher cards. After the end of your studies, we will pay out your remaining credit upon presentation of the Mensa or combination card. However, you must assert your claims within the statutory period of limitation. According to §§ 195 and 199 BGB, the statute of limitations is three years. The limitation period starts at the end of the year in which the card was last used. Damaged/defective/lost cards will be blocked. You will then receive a replacement card. Be sure to note the card number!


If you lose your Mensa or combination card, the remaining credit may neither be refunded nor transferred to the replacement card! Therefore, we recommend that you do not load excessive amounts onto your dining hall card or combination card.
